Workforce Update from Workforce Solutions of West Texas

Unemployment Information:

The first chart below represents the latest Unemployment Insurance claimant data as of Sunday, April 5, 2020 for the entire 19 county region. The second chart provides additional detail by office location and reported reason for claim.

NOTE: Week of 04/05 only has claims for 04/05, a Sunday. This number will increase. All numbers adjusted to reflect more claims than reflected in last week’s report.

Child Care Services:

· Based on self-reporting of licensed child care providers to Child Care Licensing 23 of our 93 contracted child care providers across the region are temporarily closed as of April 7, 2020. A total of 56 of the 152 providers in the region are currently closed. In Taylor County, 27 of the 63 licensed providers are temporarily closed.

· Effective April 1, essential workers may be eligible for child care services at no cost. Both parents must be working, if there are two parents in the household and care must be provided at a licensed facility. The simple, two page application is available on the Board’s website in English and Spanish at: https://workforcesystem.org/127/How-to-Apply.
